(WTIC-AM) -- Waterbury Police say a body found in woods in Wolcott Tuesday evening is that of a missing 26-year-old Brass City woman.
"Sadly, the worst nightmares of the family and friends were confirmed. The deceased was identified as Janet Avalo-Alvarez," said Waterbury Police Lieutenant David Silverio.
Silverio says the case has been deemed a homicide.
Avalo-Alvarez was reported missing November 13.
She was a co-owner of a city nightspot who police say had a personal relationship with the suspect, Alfredo Peguero-Gomez.
Police are working with US Marshals to find him.
Silverio says Avalo-Alvarez died from neck compression.
Peguero-Gomez may have fled the country.
His car was found in a lot at Newark International Airport in New Jersey.
