HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The SEIU 1199 New England healthcare union says 21 of its workers were arrested during a protest in Hartford on Thursday afternoon.

The workers shut down the intersection of Capitol Avenue and Trinity, Washington, and Lafayette Streets next to the Capitol building Thursday afternoon to demand Governor Lamont allocate funding for better wages and benefits, including health insurance and paid sick days.

Hartford Police arrested 21 of the protestors.

"Give us decent wages," says Diliner Jordan on WTIC 1080, "...we are on the front lines...it takes a lot to deal with people with physical and mental disabilities."

The Lamont administration approved extra funding for group home and nursing home facilities to pay better wages and to improve benefits for those operators.
