ENFIELD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut State Police are investigating a deadly crash that closed I-91 Southbound in Enfield for hours Friday afternoon.
Troopers say William Higgins, 88, of Enfield, was driving his 2012 Toyota Rav4 on Route 5 South.
For reasons unknown, Higgins went off Route 5, through a wooded and grassy area, onto I-91 Southbound near Exit 46, striking a tractor trailer.
Higgins was pronounced dead at Hartford Hospital.
Drivers were diverted off the highway at Exit 47 for hours through the afternoon drive, until late Friday night.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
