Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - Connecticut is lending a hand to some of its New England neighbors when it comes to cleaning up the mess left behind by this week's blizzard.

Governor Lamont is announcing the state Department of Transportation is sending equipment and personnel to help Rhode Island and Massachusetts

CTDOT is sending 80 pieces of equipment, along with 125 drivers and mechanics.

The equipment includes trucks and snowblowers.

They're expected to stay at least until Sunday, March 1.

“By sending our crews and equipment, we are providing critical support to the region,” Connecticut Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto said. “This deployment shows the value of regional cooperation in keeping roads safe and the economy moving during extreme winter weather.”

The assistance is being made available by the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), the nation’s all-hazards national mutual aid system.

Providence received a 37.9 inches of snow.

In Massachusetts, there have been widespread power outages that utility officials say may not be fully restored before Friday.
