Hartford, Conn. (WTIC Radio)-Live Greyhound racing ended in Connecticut in 2005, but advocates pressed the legislature's Public Safety Committee to support a measure officially banning the sport.

Under current  Connecticut law, owning and operating dog tracks in Connecticut is legal.

"Because the industry is quickly dissolving in other states, Connecticut is now viewed as fertile ground and now provides an open door for dog racing," said Christine Dorchak, President of the Greyhound Protection Group. "The resurgence of dog racing is real and that's why a corrected change in law is needed."

In addition, the dog-racing industry has been found to use live lure training where small animals are forced to suffer in terror before being killed, " said Annie Hornish of the Humane Society of  America.
