Governor Lamont in a statement says “Tyre Nichols should be alive today.  His life matters, and my heart breaks for his family, friends, and loved ones."

Lamont says he was struck by Nichols' photography, in sharp contrast to the violence he encountered at the hands of the now former officers that was caught on tape.

Hartford Police Chief Jason Thody says he's outraged at what occurred, calling the Memphis officers actions "sickening and deplorable".

In a joint statement by New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker and Police Chief Karl Jacobson, the two say the Elm City grieves with the Nichols family and the city of Memphis, adding that police departments must ensure the promise to treat everyone with dignity and respect.
