Dr. Diana James -- director of breast imaging at Hartford Hospital -- welcomes the change. "Age 40 really is the age to start screening."
This change -- from 50 to 40 -- comes as more and more younger women have been getting diagnosed with breast cancer. "Start early, and then detect really tiny changes, and so we can cure the disease," said Dr. James.
Also seeing it that way, and also on Channel 3, the Susan G. Komen Foundation's Susan Brown. "When breast cancer is found early and people get effective treatments and the outcomes are much better."
And the treatment becomes easier to withstand, she says.
