Now that they've walked, it could be a while before Meriden school bus drivers back are behind the wheel says their union.
"We're not going to get off of this picket line until we get an offer we deserve."
They know, says Nick Frangiamore with the Teamsters to Channel 3, that might not be anytime soon.
"The drivers are ready to stay off for as long as it takes.
Meriden's schools are staying open through the strike. Still, Meriden Federation of Teachers
President Lauren Mancini Averitt says kids will not be punished for missing class.
"If it's not possible to get to school because the bus was the only option, we're going to teach lessons. We're not going to have it count against kids."
