The gas leak is gone. But the smell? "Terrible," remembers one woman.
Like rotten eggs. Mayor Bronin's office says you can expect the odor will be around for a short term.
When a construction crew puntured a gas line yesterday, office workers and some apartment dwellers
tell Channel 3 they were told to leave the area.
"We just heard an announcement on the PA system and it said everyone needed to evacuate," said one woman who left a building.
Another says, "there was a sense of urgency when the alarm went off the second time."
Now, readings of all buildings along Main street show they're safe to re-enter.
