HAMDEN, Conn. (WTIC Radio)—Hamden police have arrested a New Haven man for allegedly sexually assaulting a young child, officials announced Thursday.

During the early morning hours of February 6, Hamden officers arrived at a residence in the southern part of town in response to a report of suspicious activity, police said.

Officers determined that Antwuane Darden, 37, of New Haven had broken into the residence and had allegedly sexually assaulted a young child while the child slept, officials said.

Police arrested Darden and charged him with first degree Sexual Assault, Home Invasion and Risk of Injury to a Minor. Darden was detained on a $500,000 bond, police said.

The child was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment, according to police.

Darden is a registered sex offender, police said, and is scheduled to appear at Meriden Superior Court on February 22.
