HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Governor Ned Lamont cedes authority for local school districts to decide mask wearing starting February 28, but Dr. Manisha Juthani told an informational hearing of the Legislature's Public Health Committee that it will remain a balancing act.

The forum, expected to last six hours, comes a day before the legislature returns to session to consider extending the governor's 11 executive orders that expire February 15, and other issues.

Schools will have to be prepared when the masks come off, Juthani said, "How children adjust to that because it'll be something new. We'll have to be nimble and respond to their needs as best as possible."

"For children who are unvaccinated, being masked is the safest way to operate in early childhood settings. The difference is it will not be a mandate and operators will have the ability to decide what will happen in their facilities," she said.
