(WTIC Radio) - Connecticut State Police announce the line-of-duty death of a K9 during an officer-involved shooting in Stonington.
Troopers on Thursday night were serving an arrest warrant on a suspect, wanted in Norwich, at a residence in the Pawcatuck section of Stonington.
During that situation, at some point, gunfire broke out. K9 Broko, according to State Police, "...courageously gave his life protecting his handler, fellow troopers, and our community."
K9 Broko was a graduate of the 218th Connecticut State Police Patrol K9 Class in January 2021 and was a very well-respected member of the Connecticut State Police Search and Rescue team.
A written statement from State Police goes onto say that K9 Broko and his handler were assigned to Troop A in Southbury and most recently to the Connecticut State Police K9 Unit.
The State Office of Inspector General is investigating the police aspect of the officer-involved shooting.
No further information about the situation has been released.
