Farmington, Conn./WTIC Radio - Summer vacation is nearly over and one local pediatrician says now would be a good time for parents to help their children transition back into school year sleep patterns.

Dr. Jody Terranova, assistant professor of pediatrics at UConn Health, says many kids have gotten used to staying up late and sleeping in throughout the summer.
Additionally, she reminds parents to stay engaged and in touch with teachers and administrators.
Terranova says schools have invested in resources in the last few years in helping those students who have fallen behind.
She also says investments have been made in mental health and educational learning.
For those little ones heading off to school for the first time, Terranova advises moms and dads that, while it's an emotional time for them, to remember that children are perceptive and may be wary if they see their parents experiencing any anxiety.
