WINDSOR, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Windsor Police say a man experiencing a mental health crisis Wednesday is being evaluated at a hospital and charged in connection with the incident.

Police say they received a call around 12:50 p.m. that a 35-year-old man was experiencing a mental health crisis, described as acting paranoid, yelling obscenities, and believing the Government was spying on him.

Officers learned the man had a valid pistol permit with several handguns.

While responding officers were speaking to the family in front of the home, the officers heard a gunshot discharged from the interior of the home.

Officers learned that the man and his brother were still inside the home.

Both brothers were later convinced to leave the home, thanks to crisis negotiators around 4:45 p.m.

Police say the man was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation.

The man is facing several charges in connection with what happened inside the home.

A portion of Park Avenue was closed. Windsor Schools delayed dismissals as a precaution.
