MANCHESTER, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The Connecticut Office of Inspector General is taking over the investigation of a shooting on I-84 in Manchester that involved police.
Manchester Police went to pull over a vehicle in the 330 block of Center Street in Manchester around 1:42 a.m. Saturday.
While the suspect initially stopped, the vehicle fled from police.
As the vehicle approached the entrance to I-84 Westbound from West Middle Turnpike in Manchester, police deployed stop sticks that slowed the vehicle but didn't prevent the driver from taking it onto the highway.
The suspect began to shoot at pursuing officers while traveling on I-84.
A Manchester officer returned fire, hitting the suspect and the suspect's vehicle.
At that point, the vehicle came to a stop on the highway.
Police administered first-aid to the suspect, who was taken to a local hospital for further treatment.
I-84 Westbound remains closed between exits 59 and 58.
