MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut State Police arrest a Massachusetts man who they say drove the wrong-way I-395 in several Eastern Connecticut towns.
Troopers received word from numerous citizens on November 11, reporting that the driver of a silver Ford Focus, later identified as David Valcin, 36, of Mattapan, was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of I-395 near Exit 11 in Norwich.
State Police say Valcin was able to swerve around troopers who tried to intercept him as he drove the Focus near Exit 6 in Montville.
Another trooper, stationed near Exit 2 in Waterford, managed to block the highway enough to stop Valcin, who attempted to drive away in reverse but ultimately did stop for the trooper.
Valcin told troopers he was unfamiliar with the area and had been relying on a GPS, while a passenger in the vehicle claimed she warned Valcin numerous times he was driving the wrong-way.
Valcin failed field sobriety tests and was arrested on driving the wrong way on a divided highway, illegally operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and reckless driving.
Bond is $2,500.
