SOUTHINGTON, Conn.(WTIC Radio)-A Meriden man faces five weapons charges, apprehended in a Southington motel Monday afternoon, police said.
The Southington patrol division performed proactive police patrol at Motel 6 on Queen Street that afternoon.
They noticed a suspicious vehicle parked at the motel with different tinted windows than its registration. Police believed the vehicle was stolen because it also bore a misused registration plate. They determined
the vehicle fled from another unidentified Connecticut police department.
Police saw a juvenile unlock the car door. Officers followed him and entered the motel room and identified the suspect as 18-year old Angel Aviles of Meriden. Near him they discovered three loose rounds of ammunition . They also found two firearms with extended magazines hidden underneath the mattress.
Police said one of the firearms was stolen out of the Mecklenburg North Carolina police department. The other firearm was a ghost gun.
Aviles also faces a risk of injury to a minor charge.
He appears in New Britain Superior Court today.
