(WTIC Radio) - AT&T is experiencing a nationwide cellular outage that's affecting calls to 911.

Some other service providers, including Cricket Wireless and T-Mobile, may be impacted.

Numerous municipalities across Connecticut are sharing word that these cellular customers may not be able to reach their emergency services when they call 911 due to the outage.

The Barkhamstead East Volunteer Fire Company #1 suggests trying several different methods in case you have to reach 911.

They write that you can try using a landline, WIFI calling, or a cell phone with a different carrier, adding the emergency SOS feature on your phone (or similar emergency mode) may still work, but there is no guarantee it will get you through.

In a statement on its website, AT&T posts: "Some customers in your area are having trouble making or receiving calls. As a result, we are experiencing long hold times. We apologize for this inconvenience and we are working to resolve this issue."
