Bridgeport, Conn./WTIC Radio - A New Caanan police officer is facing charges of weapons and explosives possession.
The state's attorney in Fairfield says David Rivera's arrest was part of a joint investigation with Stratford and Naugatuck police, along with the Connecticut State Police.
A warrent was issued for Rivera's arrest and search of his home in Stratford turned up quantities of high explosives that were found to be improperly stored, authorities said.
The warrant states Rivera allegedly used the weapons in a side business "training working dogs for various organizations".
In addition, the warrant says Rivera did not have a permit to possess those weapons.
He is charged with illegal storage of explosives, illegal possession of an assault weapon, illegal storage of a firearm, and three counts of improper transfer of a firearm.
Rivera's bond was set at $250,000 and he's being arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court.
