NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (WTIC Radio)—In an effort to bring Christmas cheer to local families in need, North Haven Police are hosting their second annual Christmas Toy Drive.

Officers will be collecting new unwrapped toys from now until Saturday, December 12.

To help boost donations, the police department is also hosting a stuff-a-cruiser event on Saturday, December 5. Officers will be collecting new unwrapped toys from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 200 Universal Drive.

Last year, the department raised over $7,000 in toys which allowed them to help about 70 families, according to Officer Stephen Sudac.

Those toys were given out directly to families in the North Haven community, Sudac said, and any overflow of toys were handed out to kids in New Haven with the help of the New Haven Police Emerald Society.

This year, the goal is to break that $7,000, however Sudac said just matching it again will make the event a success.

"It's all about giving back to the community," Sudac said. "In North Haven, we're very lucky. We're very well supported, so whatever we can do to give back, that's what we're looking to do."

Donations can be dropped off at the North Haven Police Department lobby at 8 Linsley Street.
