Windsor Locks, Conn./WTIC Radio - Recent dry weather coupled with high winds make for near perfect brush fire conditions this time of year.
Fire prevention officials are advising caution when disposing of smoking and other flammable materials.
Allen Zygmunt at the Connecticut Fire Academy says such fires are sometimes the result of careless disposal of smoking or cooking materials.
He says your best bet is to make sure to completely extinguish such items as cigarettes and charcoal.
Also, clear dead brush from around the home that can pose a fire hazard.
Zygmunt says the season generally lasts into May, subsiding when leaves reappear on trees and the ground is moistened from spring rains.
