Brooklyn, Conn./WTIC Radio - The state Office of Inspector General says the shooting of a Brooklyn, Connecticut man nearly a year ago by a state trooper was justified.

It was May 9th, 2023 that a state marshal was dispatched to an apartment on Tiffany Street to serve an eviction notice to Bryan Harvey.

The marshal requested he be accompanied by animal control officers because Harvey was known to have a large dog in his apartment.

Harvey, armed with a large hunting knife and the dog at his side, refused to drop the weapon following repeated commands to do so by police.

It was when he stood up and advanced toward officers after a dialogue, Trooper Romello Lumpkin fired a shot from his duty weapon.

The OIG's report says Lumpkin feared for his life and the lives of others when he shot Harvey, adding that Lumpkin's action prevented a knife attack and was justified.
