Bristol, Conn. (WTIC Radio)-The Bristol Economic and Community Development Board meets tonight in a move that sets the stage for further development of the former Bristol Center Mall site downtown, Mayor Jeff Caggiano said.

The Board will consider approving a plan to allow the Wheeler Clinic in Plainville to move its administrative offices and consolidate two other locations in Bristol on the one downtown parcel.

The North Main Street location was home to the Bristol Center Mall, demolished in 2008. Bristol Hospital has a building on the site.

Wheeler runs pediatric mental health clinics.

Part of the plans involve moving the Green.
"We're building a Green where you need grass and not buildings. Not over a piece of the property where there's a conduit that runs underneath, where you can't build a building anyway," said Caggiano.

Caggiano said that approval might allow development of two other projects, including Wheeler Clinic. "We owe it to Wheeler clinic to get another bite at the apple because they have federal funding."

If the plan gains approval tonight, it heads to the full Council next week.
