(Hartford, Conn-WTIC) The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority begins a series of hearings from the public following Tropical Storm Isaias in August that left nearly one million residents without electricity, spoiling food and medicine.

Eversource and United Illuminating testified earlier this year that the storm was one of the largest the State has ever experienced.

PURA Spokesperson Taren O'Connor says the hearings will be held Wednesday through Friday and will be done remotely. Sign up is done through the PURA website. Participants are asked to limit comments to three minutes, due to anticipated turnout.

Starting in December, a half-dozen evidentiary hearings will be held through April.

Upon the closing of all hearings, PURA will then decide whether civil penalties or enforcement action will occur.

In a special legislative session in September, Connecticut lawmakers decided to tie rate making into performance by the utilities.
