New Haven, Conn./WTIC Radio - Fares are about to increase for rail service in Connecticut.
The state Department of Transportation is announcing that's due to a funding gap in the state budget adopted last month.
There will be five-percent increases this year and next year on Metro North Railroad services in Connecticut, as well as the CTrail Hartford line and Shore Line East.
The first increase is slated for September 1st.
The second increase will occur effective September 1st of next year.
“These fare increases will help maintain existing rail service levels by keeping the same number of trains on the schedule for our customers,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority the Metro North increases at its meeting on Wednesday.
