FARMINGTON, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - After nearly 30 years on the air, Ray Dunaway announced that he is retiring from WTIC NewsTalk 1080.

His last day on the air will be December 24, 2021.

“It’s been a long, wonderful run, but having hosted morning shows since 1980, the time has come to sleep in (at least, I hope I can)," Dunaway said about his retirement.

Dunaway has been on the air at WTIC since May 25, 1992. As a graduate of Trinity College in Hartford, he was familiar with the city and the state of Connecticut. He also worked as a night disc jockey on WPOP-AM while attending Trinity College.

Prior to his time at WTIC, Dunaway was on the air at KMBZ in Kansas City.

Operations Manager Steve Salhany said, “It goes without saying that Ray has been an important part of WTIC, and more importantly, our community. While I am sure he’s going to enjoy sleeping in, he will be greatly missed.”

Senior VP/Market Manager Stephanie Perl said, “We want to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Ray Dunaway who has dedicated almost 30 years of his career to WTIC-AM NewsTalk 1080. Ray is known as the morning man and his iconic personality is synonymous with WTIC-AM. In addition, he had a significant impact over these past 29 years with Audacy and the larger Connecticut community. Ray Dunaway is a true broadcaster and we will miss him greatly. We wish him all the best in his retirement.”

"I want to thank you for listening since 1992 here at WTIC," Dunaway said, "You are truly wonderful people; as are the staff here at Audacy. I can honestly say these friends are the best I’ve ever worked with, totally professional. I’m sure I’ll be seeing you around."

Beginning Monday, January 3, Brian Shactman, who joined Ray on the air for the last year, will host the WTIC morning show alongside Aaron Kupec with news, Bob Cox with weather, Mark Christopher with traffic and Matt Sirois with sports.
