VERNON, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Seven people were injured in a Sunday morning fire at a Vernon apartment building.
The blaze on Union Street was reported around 10:45 a.m. Firefighters and police found several people hanging out of windows, trying to escape the flames, said authorities.
Seven people were treated for smoke inhalation at Rockville General Hospital, which is just across the street. Two were later transferred to Bridgeport Hospital, where there is a burn unit.
Firefighters from a half dozen nearby towns assisted Vernon crews in the response. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
