Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - Governor Lamont has declared a Stage 2 drought for parts of Connecticut.

Fairfield, New Haven, and Middlesex Counties are all at below normal precipitation levels.

“The purpose of increasing these counties to Stage 2 is to raise awareness that as this lack of rain continues, there is a possibility that this emerging drought event could intensify,” said Lamont.

The governor's action comes at the recommendation of the state Interagency Drought Workgroup.

Action that should be taken under advisement includes shutting down automatic outdoor irrigation, fixing leaky plumbing, and following requests to conserve from local municipalities and water suppliers.

Drought advisories were last issued in Connecticut last November, when the state's eight counties reached the Stage 2 level.
