HARTFORD, CONN(WTIC Radio)-The State Department of Transportation and State Police said they're prepared for the weekend storm that expected to deliver between six inches and a foot of snow Saturday night into Sunday.

D-O-T Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto said 630 plow trucks, with 900 drivers, will be out plowing the snow. He said additionally 200 private contractors will assist.
Eucalitto said the state D-O-T has 115 vacancies for plow drivers and the pool of available private contractors has been reduced by 25 percent. He attributes bothshortages to a difficult job market.

State Police Colonel Daniel Loughman, Commanding Officer, said the preference is for drivers to stay off the roads. But he adds if you do travel, have a cell phone, working windshield wipers, enough gas and to use turn signals. He also said to clear all the snow off your vehicle, reduce speeds and give plow drivers enough room to do their jobs.

Loughman said troopers will be patrolling and if any emergencies arise, contact 9-1-1.
