Hartford, Conn./WTIC - A bill designed to curb black bear-human interactions is on its way to the state House.

On Thursday, the measure passed the Senate, allowing the killing of bears who pose a nuisance or are a direct threat to a homeowner, livestock or crops.

State Senator Rick Lopes, co-chair of the legislature's Environment Committee, says residents have to learn to live with the animals.

"I want to emphasize a lot that not law, however well crafted or extreme, will stop dangerous interactions between bears and humans.  It's not going to stop", said Lopes.

What the bill does not do is allow for a limited bear hunt, as had been originally suggested.

The bill also bars the intentional feeding of bears.
