HARTFORD, CONN (WTIC Radio)-The Lamont Administration has announced the state will purchase 60 new next-generation commuter rail cars, with placement prioritized for the Hartford and New Haven line branches.
The rail cars are expected to be delivered in 2026.
The rail cars are 85 feet long, will be used 24 hours a day and travel 12-hundred miles daily.
D-O-T spokesman Josh Morgan said some of the current rail cars are thirty years old and near the end of their regular use.
The state will bond the $315 million cost.
