Shawn Wooden said in a statement today, "I’ve decided not to seek re-election as Treasurer. Like other working families, mine too faces the day-to-day pressures of family life."

Wooden, a former Hartford City Council president, was first elected state treasurer in 2018.

He has been president of the National Association of State Treasurers and helped lead a coaltion of state treasurers supporting divestment of securities of Russian companies.

With Wooden's decision, three of the four state constitutional offices will be up for grabs this fall.

Incumbent Democratic Secretary of the State Denise Merrill is not seeking reelection.

Comptroller Natalie Braswell, who succeeded Kevin Lembo late last year when the latter stepped down due to health issues, announced when she took the job she would not seek a full term.
