HARTFORD, CONN (WTIC Radio)-Police have arrested a suspect in an early Saturday-morning shooting that killed two, including a female teenager.
Police responded just after 3:30 to Maple Avenue on reports of a female shot. While going there they observed a car crash at the intersection of Maple Avenue and Benton Street and an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He's in critical condition.
They located a 17-year old female shot on Maple Avenue. She was initially hospitalized at Connecticut Children's Medical Center. Police were then dispatched to Wethersfield Avenue. Two males suffering gunshot wounds were dropped off at Hartford Hospital. Police believe the entire incident began at Maple Avenue, the result of an attempted robbery.
The 17-year old female succumbed to her injuries. She's identified as Alondra Vega-Martinez of Hartford.
A male also died from his injuries, identified as Joseph Vargas-Mercado, 25, of Philadelphia.
Under arrest is Carlos Frank Nieves, 33, of Philadelphia. He faces charges including criminal attempt at murder and home invasion.
Police said they expect the charges to be upgraded.
