MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut State Police release traffic data from their Memorial Day 2023 holiday enforcement period.

Between Friday at midnight and ending at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, state police responded to 5,880 calls for service. They gave assistance to 476 drivers.

They responded to 273 car accidents. Of those crashes, there were 32 injuries. Two serious injuries were reported in crashes that happened in Middlefield and Windsor Locks.

Four people were killed on the roads during the holiday weekend. One person was killed in Greenwich. Two people were killed in a wrong-way crash in Middlebury. One man died in a two-car collision that happened in the town of Brooklyn, near Rhode Island.

There were 518 citations issued for speeding.

208 citations were written for seatbelt violations.

Other hazardous moving conditions, like following too closely, resulted in 576 citations.
