United Way releases homeless funding

Hartford, Conn (WTIC Radio)--To combat the growing problem of homelessness, the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut has released $100-thousand.
President and CEO Eric Harrison said the funds will be shared by network partners and municipalities.

Advocates said nearly 12-hundred people slept outside overnight in Connecticut.
Lt. Governor Susan Bysciewicz said for the second year in a row homelessness increased.  The latest figures show an uptick of 13 percent over last year.

The state has instituted program to help the homeless, including career connections, rental assistance and eviction prevention.
