Washington, D.C. (WTIC Radio)-Waterbury Mayor Neil O'Leary, attending a two-day U.S. Conference of Mayors', said his focus will be the redevelopment of Brownfield properties in his city and resurrecting them back on the tax rolls.

Brownfields are polluted properties and O'Leary said Waterbury has about 100 of them.

"We're the only city in the region to receive funding (from the EPA) for a Superfund Brownfield cleanup project. It's the former Scoville site. It's a huge victory for the people of Waterbury," O'Leary said. He expects the funding to be in the several million-dollar range.

Speakers at the Conference include House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, U.S Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, U-S Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Marcia Fudge and U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo.

A range of issues will be discussed, including Covid 19, infrastructure, housing, public safety, immigration and clean energy.
