Waterbury, Conn./WTIC Radio - On the heels of a fire that destroyed a home in Waterbury this week, the mayor is ordering action when it comes to the city's fire hydrants.

Firefighters were hampered by hydrants that had water flow issues as they fought a fire on Bennett Avenue early Tuesday morning.

Now, Mayor Paul Pernerewski is instructing Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo to launch an investigation that will look at inspection and maintenance protocols.

In addition, Fire Chief Javier Lopez and Water Superintendent Brad Malay have been instructed to develop an action plan targeting hydrants with flow deficiencies and put a plan in place to fix them.

Pernerewski says he wants the plan submitted in the next week.

There were no injuries in the fire and the investigation is ongoing.

Waterbury has about four thousand fire hydrants citywide.
