The owner left the car to check on her son who was attending an activity inside a business, police said.

When the owner headed back outside, police said she noticed her car was stolen while her daughter was still in the car.

Soon after, the 12-year-old returned to the area without injury, police said. The child indicated that she was let out of the car before the suspect left the parking lot, authorities explained.

Police are searching for a 2016 Black Dodge Charger with a CT Dealer Plate DV4838. The suspect operating the vehicle is possibly a black male, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Waterbury Police Detective Bureau at (203) 574-6941 or Crime Stoppers at (203) 755-1234.
