New Haven, Conn./WTIC Radio - Acting New Haven Police Chief David Zannelli was sworn in Tuesday as the city's permanent top cop.
Zannelli ascended to the job last winter upon the resignation and arrest of his predecessor, Karl Jacobson.
Jacobson's facing charges he stole tens of thousands of dollars from police accounts to feed a gambling habit.
In remarks after the swearing in, Zannelli said "to the community, I ask for your continued partnership."
Zannelli added "public safety is not something we can do alone."
The new chief also asked the residents to let him and his officers know their concerns.
Jacobson has pled not guilty to embezzlement charges and is due back in court next month.
