A manhunt has been launched for two young adults who busted out of a Louisiana jail last weekend, but officials shared they were unaware until a relative reported their escape.
The 19-year-olds Omarion Hoofkin and Avery Guidry are considered violent and were being held in the Tangipahoa Parish jail on homicide charges, the parish sheriff’s office said in a press release.
Hoofkin is also facing charges of aggravated battery for a fight he got into at another jail.
Guidry and Hoofkin also escaped from the hail with two others, Jamarcus Cyprian, 20, and Travon Johnson, 21.
After becoming aware of their escape, it was discovered that the teens had climbed a fence and fled from the jailhouse recreation yard on Saturday.
Johnson was being held on the 2022 homicide case, and Cyprian was serving time for armed robbery and weapons possession, the sheriff’s office noted.
Johnson and Guidry were picked up by cops on Monday after they were found hiding in a dumpster after showing up at the home of a family member in Hammond, Louisiana.
Hoofkin and Cyprian remain at large, the sheriff's office shared in an update.
“It’s very concerning,” Tangipahoa Sheriff’s Office Chief Jimmy Travis shared with KTVO News. “If the proper head counts [had been made], we would [have] known immediately. We had a failure within that we hope to correct and move forward.”
Those with information on the two remaining escapees are being asked to call the department’s tip line at 800-554-5245.
