(Hartford. Conn.-WTIC) With gains by Democrats on Election Day, Connecticut will likely head in a more progressive direction, said the likely State House Republican Leader-Elect Vincent Candelora(North Branford).
Candelora expects to gain the official post tonight at a Republican Caucus, running unopposed. "We have to get our fiscal house in order and not jut the budget but the special Transportation Fund. We may be seeing more taxes" he said. Candelora also deflected criticism pointed at Republicans by Governor Ned Lamont earlier this week regarding the Transportation Fund. Lamont said Republicans couldn't agree on the issue. Candelora counters," Republicans came together universally with a no tolls plan. We were summarily rejected. It was the Democrats who were the obtacles. They could never come together on ways to properly fund the plan."
Candelora thinks the key issues include propping up the hospital and manufacturing industries and the public health issue of promoting preventative care. He also says we need to work at making schools safe and getting students back in the classroom.
Democrats today are expected to name Hartford State Representative Matthew Ritter House Speaker. " We have a good relationship and share a trust element, Candelora said.
