CT State Police investigate Waterbury police officer shooting

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTIC Radio)—Connecticut State Police are investigating a shooting that left a Waterbury police officer injured during a stolen vehicle investigation Tuesday.

Around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, the police officer responded to a stolen vehicle incident on Marley Place off Wolcott Street. According to Waterbury police, gunshots were fired and the police officer was shot in the chest.

"He was transported to St. Mary's Hospital in a very timely fashion. Given first aid by other officers on the scene, that officer is doing fine and recovering now and getting ready to be released from the hospital," Waterbury Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo said during a press briefing Tuesday evening.

In a press release, Waterbury officials said Connecticut State Police took four suspects into custody. The suspects were located in the area of Oxford Airport, the statement said.

With State Police investigating the incident, Spagnolo said Waterbury Police will continue to investigate the stolen vehicle complaint.
