MANCHESTER, Connecticut (WTIC radio)

Apel’s Opera House in Manchester has been many things in its 125 year history including a funeral home, theater and tractor repair shop.
The Hartford Courant is reporting that a developer is looking to remodel the four story building, but this time for residential apartments.

It would involve a large-scale interior conversion to build 28 apartments while maintaining the original architecture and historic features of the building.

The brick structure was built as the replacement of the original theater which burned down in 1899.

Construction could begin as early as this fall with tenants moving in by late next year or early 2027.
