Week 1 of the NFL season has a tendency to bring on overreactions, but even Boomer and Gio were surprised by the reactions to the Giants’ 40-0 blowout at the hands of the rival Cowboys.
Angry fans called into the show Monday morning and were already calling for heads to roll, just one game removed from a divisional round playoff contest. One fan wanted Brian Daboll, last year’s Coach of the Year, gone, while Tom in Toms River wanted Daniel Jones replaced by former Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger, who has done all of nothing in the NFL.
“Oh my God. One game?” Boomer said in disbelief.
“These Giants fans, this is why they always get me crazy,” Gio added. “We’ve gotten a couple calls from Giants fans who are completely off the bandwagon after one loss. That might be the most bizarre phone call after one game.”
The wildness didn’t stop there, as Kevin in Philadelphia, so pained by the Giants’ blowout losses in their last two games (dating back to the rout at the hands of the Eagles in the divisional round), wanted to trade lives with a prisoner currently on the loose in his area.
“There’s a prisoner on the loose about 20 minutes from my house,” Kevin said. “I’m about to purchase an orange jumpsuit, and just go hide in a tall field and say ‘Hey, take me.’ I can’t watch this garbage anymore.”
The calls were wild, but they weren’t much of a shock to Boomer.
“Last night was one of those days,” Boomer said. “Where I was sitting there like ‘Man, tomorrow is gonna be a nightmare.’”
