$1,000 Reward Offered For Information After Dog Found In Ecorse Covered In Burns

(WWJ) A $1,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest of whomever burned and tortured a dog who was later rescued in Ecorse.

The small, black mixed breed dog is painful to look at, with  burn marks all over her body and missing teeth. She's painfully thin, with ribs sticking out of her thin fur.

She's also missing teeth, which rescuers believe she broke off while desperately trying to get off her chain. Veterinarians estimate her age at under four years old.

Nearly 2,000 people have shared the post with pictures of Destiny's pitiful, battered body. Most are outraged over what happened to the dog rescuers have named Destiny.

"Poor sweet baby--!!! May those who abused you suffer the same fate. I'll be happy to break their teeth with a baseball bat for you!!!" one woman wrote.

Others noted how happy she looked to be rescued, with a gleam in her eye and a wag in her tail -- despite what she suffered at human hands.

Destiny is being cared for by veterinarian Dr. Lucretia Greer at the Woodhaven Animal Hospital. Greer says she's a gentle girl who has tolerated debriding, poking and prodding without a complaint. Destiny is spending time Wednesday in a hyperbaric chamber to speed healing.

"It was obviously animal cruelty at its worst, it's hard to tell what she was burned with, but obviously chemicals or a cigar butt," said Dr. Patricia Odette, a chiropractor at Woodhaven Animal Hospital, president of Animal Resource Funding Foundation and the mayor of Woodhaven. "She's extremely friendly, she's extremely happy."

Greer noted that Destiny is skeletal and hasn't had access to food in awhile, but she seems to realize she's finally safe. "She just seems so grateful."

Donations are needed to pay for Destiny's care. Donate by clicking the button below.

Anyone with information on who hurt Destiny is asked to call Ecorse police at 313-381-0900.
