DETROIT (WWJ) - A 15-year-old Detroit boy could end up spending the rest of his life is prison after allegedly killing a man he tried to rob during a gun sale.
Demar Keyan Pernell has been charged with first-degree murder and felony murder in connection with the shooting death of 20-year-old Winston Williams.
The shooting happened April 16 in the area of Plymouth Road and Asbury Park, just east of the Southfield Freeway on the west side. Officers responded to calls of shots fired and found Williams unresponsive, lying in an alley. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation by police led to Pernell's arrest. According to prosecutors, Pernell was attempting to rob Williams during a gun sale when the shooting happened.
Pernell is charged as an adult designated juvenile, which means a judge could sentence him as a juvenile or an adult, or fashion a blended juvenile and adult sentence upon conviction.
Pernell was expected to appear at the Juvenile Detention Facility on Saturday for a preliminary hearing.
