POINT EDWARD, Ontario (WWJ) -- An investigation is ongoing after authorities seized more than 120 lbs. of suspected cocaine at the United States-Canada border last month.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), Southern Ontario Region, and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), London Detachment, announced on Monday they has seized 58.15 kilograms of suspected cocaine on May 24. Officials say a traveler arrived at the Blue Water Bridge in Point Edward and was referred for a secondary examination.
CBSA officers, assisted by a detector dog team, used a large-scale imaging x-ray and discovered 48 bricks of suspected cocaine inside the suspect's vehicle. The drugs were concealed inside an after-market compartment in the vehicle.
Officials seized the suspected cocaine and arrested the driver, identified as 29-year-old Olanrewaju Michael Ojelade of Brantford, Ontario and he was transferred to custody of the RCMP.
Ojelade has been chraged with one count each of importing, possession and trafficking of a schedule 1 substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA);
His next court date is on June 13, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia, Ontario.
The investigation is still ongoing.
