DETROIT (WWJ) -- A man is on the run after fleeing Michigan State Police on the west side of Detroit Monday afternoon.

MSP says a trooper pulled a male driver over around 1 p.m. near the intersection of Beechton Street and Livernois, north of Warren, because the driver was driving carelessly. After turning into an alley, the man got out of his car and stood in front of it.

Troopers directed the man to come over, but he took off running. Troopers lost sight of the suspect before they could catch up.

Authorities established a perimeter in the area and conducted a canine track. Authorities searched several abandoned houses in the area, but the suspect was never found.

MSP says they ran the plates of the suspect's vehicle and found that the registered owner of that vehicle sold it back in April. Police say the owner was able to identify the buyer and authorities are still investigating. The car was impounded.

Police did not release a description of the suspect or any further details.
