ROYAL OAK TWP. (WWJ) - Police in Royal Oak Township are investigating an assault and attempted break-in at an alleged illegal marijuana grow operation overnight.
Michigan State Police troopers responded to a call about three suspicious people dressed in all black trying to get into the window of a home along North Oak Drive, near Wyoming Avenue and 8 Mile Road, just after 11 p.m. Tuesday. The caller said the suspects left the home, but returned with a gun -- forcing one of the homeowners inside before fleeing again.
Troopers apprehended one man seen running from the area. While investigating, they found an illegal marijuana grow operation inside the home. Troopers also recovered several items left behind by the suspects, including three large containers of marijuana, a firearm and a safe containing cash. Ecstasy, other unknown pills and marijuana oil tablets were recovered in the vicinity of the victim's residence.
The homeowner suffered minor injuries and was treated and released.
The arrested suspect, a 23-year old Detroit man, remains lodged at Oakland County Jail while a warrant is sought. Troopers, along with canines and a helicopter, were not able to locate any further suspects.
MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said no arrests charges are expected in connection with the pot, adding that police are more concerned about the break-in and assault.
The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 248-584-5740.
