NOVI (WWJ) - A Southern staple is looking to expand its presence here in metro Detroit.
Novi city officials will be deciding if Chick-fil-A can open a restaurant near Twelve Oaks Mall. The Atlanta-based fast-food chain has filed paperwork to set up shop at the corner of Novi Road and 12 Oaks Mall Road, demolishing a former Denny's restaurant that currently occupies the corner.
A planning commission meeting is scheduled for Wednesday evening to discuss the plans with the public.
If plans are approved, it would be Chick-fil-A's third standalone location in the metro area. Earlier this month, the company announced plans to open its first standalone restaurant in Shelby Township, near Hall Road and Schoenherr. That location is expected to open in 2020.
The city of Allen Park is also slated to receive a standalone Chick-fil-A location in either late 2019 or 2020.
Other locations in metro Detroit include Somerset Mall in Troy and Oakland University in Rochester.
